Hello, class. This is a friendly reminder that you should be reading from your Silent Independent Reading book for at least 20 minutes each day. Happy reading!
I have a couple of titles that you might like. Looking for Alaska by John Green is a good one. It's about a guy who goes off to boarding school as a junior in high school. He is very witty but there is plenty of drama, too. Another great read is The Book Thief Markus Zusak. I know you like history, and this takes place during WWII, so that might appeal to you. I have copies of both in my classroom, so I'll show them to you on Monday.
I am an English teacher at Alameda High School and a student in the Master's of Library and Information Science program at San Jose State University. I like books; I like them a lot! I have a fantastic husband who is a journalist and two young sons who also like books, thank goodness.
Please note that some books are tagged "tween boys." That is not to imply that female readers would not also enjoy these books, but I have found that some of the male readers I have worked with have a harder time finding appealing titles than their female counterparts do. Given that, I wanted to point out some titles that may be especially enticing for this group of readers. But I encourage all readers to try all kinds of books all the time!
Hi Ms. Gregor Hartlaub!
ReplyDeleteI need a new SIR book. Do you have any recommendations? I went through the Twilight series last year, but I'm kind of over the vampires.
Thanks!
Maya
